DreiStein

Ingo Althöfer, February 2014

In the general forum of LittleGolem.net we had/have am intensive discussion on Super-TicTacToe, a meta-game based on the very traidtional TicTacToe paper and pencil game.
LG-discussion on Super Tic Tac Toe

At some point the exchange of ideas developed an own dynamic: People started to think about meta-variants of EinStein würfelt nicht! : Ewn is played simultaneously on several boards; in each turn the player to move rolls the die. (S)he sees the outcome and then decides on which of the boards to play "the" move. The first meta-variant, invented by Ray Garrison, was with nine Ewn boards in a 3x3-grid - and TicTacToe rule to get the meta-winner. The game got the name "NineStein!", by FatPhil.

The second meta-variant was proposed for the Fano board (with 7 "vertices", each one belonging to three of the 7 "lines"). After some initial confusion we called it FanoStein.

Here comes a third variant: Ewn simultaneously on three boards. Winner is who wins at least two of the three boards. A natural name for the variant is DreiStein. DreiStein is simpler than NineStein and FanoStein, but has less random influence than traditional EinStein. Here comes the very first game of DreiStein, played online between FatPhil and Ingo Althöfer. The pictures show the screenshots from Phil's server, one for each move played.

Thanks to Phil for setting up the server!

Now Phil with his blue stones has won the first game, the one in the lower left. To win the match in total, Ingo will have to win both other boards.

I do not need a 1!

I do not need a 1!

What shall I say? At the end, the dice turned against me. Very sad ...

Nevertheless, congratulations to Phil for winning!
And thanks again for setting up the alpha-server!
